ACTON GREEN RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION
NEIGHBOURHOOD REPORT FOR 2005 AGM
3rd March 2005
REPORT ON POLICE LIAISON AND NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH BY LIZ DENDY
For the first part of this year we were fortunate in having Liz Huggins as our very active Beat Officer. Sadly for us she achieved promotion to Sergeant and was promptly moved to Hounslow. Since then, despite many representations, we have not had a replacement.
Ealing, like other London boroughs. has adopted the Safer Neighbourhood scheme, which allocates to selected wards a significant police presence. These are chosen according to strict criteria. We are near the bottom of the list and will not enter the scheme until late 2006 unless significant extra money is made available. However, we have been promised a Beat Officer in the near future.
I have regularly attended both Ealing and Acton Community Police Consultative Groups and reported any relevant matters. If any member wishes to know more – or to attend the meetings that are public – please let me know (telephone 8994 4262)
We are fed statistics of crime in the Borough and updated on new initiatives. The effects of the new Licensing laws and the extension of ASBOs have been discussed. In many ways we are fortunate compared with other parts of the Borough. However, we have had our share of crime, noticeably car theft and, more recently, street robbery. It cannot be stressed enough that using mobile phones in the street and carrying large amounts of money and credit cards on your person are NOT to be recommended.
There has been little information from Ealing Borough Neighbourhood Watch and we await the re-convening of the November 2003 AGM which was declared invalid. I have asked about this on many occasions.
Street co-ordinators now have a folder of relevant leaflets for your perusal; please contact them. I thank them for their support and help.
Police/Neighbourhood Watch information is included on the AGRA website and current news is included on our notice board in Marie's shop on the corner of Antrobus Road and Cunnington Street..
