SOUTHFIELD WARD SAFER NEIGHBOURHOODS PANEL - JULY 2006
The first meeting of the Ward Panel was held last week. People known to the Safer Neighbourhoods Team were invited for this meeting; presumably it will become more democratic, but they will keep it small. Twelve out of some 20 invitees attended together with the three Team members and the Council Community Safety Officer for Acton. Sgt Helene Holloway chaired the meeting.
We were shown an interesting short presentation on the Safer Neighbourhoods scheme, then the rest of the time we discussed our three priorities for the next three months. The Team had circulated a questionnaire as widely as possible, asking for choices; 78 people responded. From these, and after a lengthy discussion, the following were agreed:
Ealing Council is fully committed; the Crime Prevention Unit will be involved in educating people on car safety and burglary and lighting will be a priority. Alley-gating can also be included.
The team are meeting with the W3 and W4 websites.
Attached are two charts relating to recent crime statistics in the Ward.
The Team worked hard to prepare for the meeting and the active participation of the Council Safety Officer (who took and sent out the Minutes with great speed) both give hope for the future. They deserve and need our full cooperation.

The Panel meets again in the middle of October. The Team will be attending our Annual meeting on September 27.
