John O'Groats 1 v 3 Wick Thistle
John O'Groats put in a slightly disappointing performance in their final Division 1 league game of the season against a very young looking Wick Thistle side.
John O'Groats fielded a fairly strong team with what is normally their regular starting eleven, unfortunately goalkeeper Henderson was unavailable which meant reserve keeper Ross took position in goals.
Wick Thistle fielded a team full of youngsters with quite a few regular faces missing but their youngsters did not disappoint and found themselves pushing Groats from the very start. Thistle took the lead after 15 minutes with a corner kick that managed to find its way past the Groats defence in the back of the net. They took a further lead after the half hour mark and Groats found themselves trailing 2 - 0 at half time.
John O'Groats managed to claw a goal back in the last 10 minutes with a scrappy goal resulting in a Thistle player putting it in the back of the net. There were some positives from the game keeper Ross pulled off some superb saves keeping Groats in the game although he did spill the ball a few times, but we can let him off with that!
Stuart Sinclair had a superb shot that rattled off the upright to deny the defender a goal. Strikers D. Munro and Henstridge also had some good chances but failed to find the back of the net. The end result was a fair result in a game that could be pretty meaningless anyway.
John O'Groats now remain 4 points clear of Wick Groats in Division 1, with Wick Groats having two games remaining against title favorites Pentland Utd. John O'Groats will naturally be hoping that Pentland Utd can take 3 or more points of Wick Groats so we can ensure that we are playing Division 1 football next season.
