Div 1 Result - John O'Groats 2 Wick Rovers 3 th May 2003
John O'Groats 2 v 3 Wick Rovers
John O'Groats battled hard against the on-form Wick Rovers side to end up loosing 3-2 in an
entertaining game in John O'Groats. John O'Groats fielded a team without four first team
regular players and had a minimum of two substitutes, this gave a chance for youngster Keith Malcolm to take
up his role in the middle of the park.
Groats went into the game knowing they would face a tough challenge against a Wick Rovers team
that currently sits 2nd in Division 1. Rovers started the game the better team, however
both teams had very few chances the first decent chance fell to Rovers who scored after 10 mins.
Groats had a further good chance that fell to Malcolm, however the rovers keeper pulled off a
good save. Rovers scored again in 29 mins and a further goal in 42 mins to go into the half time
interval with a 3 - 0 lead.
Groats came out the second half and controlled most of the game, Mark Munro scored a great goal on
the 58th minute to give a glimmer of hope for Groats. Some good passing and good football
allowed Groats all the possesion giving Rovers very little of the play. It was that man again Mark Munro
that scored on the 80th minute, however Groats were unable to find another goal which meant Rovers
finished the game 3 - 2 winners.
Groats will next face Wick Groats in Wick on Thursday night.
