Div 1 Result - John O'Groats 2 Workshops 2 12th May 2003
John O'Groats 2 v 2 Dounreay Workshops
John O'Groats missed out on three valuable points in a disappointing game last night against Division 1 newcomers Dounreay Workshops. John O'Groats were without their longest
serving player and one of their most consistent players so far this season in left-back John Banks who was unavailable for the game. Squad player Iain Rosie was therefore drafted into the left back position.
Key player Mark Munro was also unavailable for the 1st half, however John O'Groats welcomed back the services of Mark Robertson who was drafted into a forward
position up front with Derek Munro. This gave youngster David Green a chance to start in left midfield.
Workshops certainly started off the better team and their two strikers certainly caused some
problems to the John O'Groats defence, however were caught offside on several occasions, 17 min's
into the game Workshops took the lead which was really the first decent chance for either sides. Groats
survived some further pressure as Workshops hit the post from a corner kick.
38 minutes into the game saw Workshops player showing the red card for stupidly reacting to
a challenge from Groats defender Stuart Sinclair.
Groats game out the 2nd half knowing that they would need to step up there play if they were to take any points from this game. Mark Munro game on after 55 min's to replace David Green, Munro moved up front while Robertson slotted back into his normal midfield position. The impact of M. Munro made a huge difference as Munro delivered a perfect cross for his brother Derek to score after 58 min's.
Three minutes later Groats were rewarded with there attacking efforts as striker Derek Munro scored another goal as Groats took a 2 - 1 lead. As things were looking on the up for Groats some poor and sloppy defending lead to Workshops equalising on the 64th minute to make it 2 - 2.
Both teams created very little chances after that although Groats did allow Workshops to come back into the game and put some pressure on in the last 5 minutes. Groats will be disappointed at not building up on their 2 - 1 lead and letting Workshops back into the game, however Workshops would be happy to settle for the point with being down to 10 men.
Groats have a tricky week ahead of them where they next face Halkirk (A) David Allan Shield and
Keiss (H) in the Highland Amateur Cup.
