John O'Groats 0 v 1 Pentland Utd
John O'Groats put up a battling display against Division 1 title challengers Pentland Utd however were unable to take a point from the Dunnet team and lost the game only 1 - 0.
John O'Groats were minus Mark Banks (sill recovering from flu) and John Banks (on other duties), the team news was a bit of a blow as both players have been consistent first team players throughout the season. Stewart Sinclair started his 2nd game of the season in centre defence after a superb display on monday night and Ross took the left-back role to replace J. Banks. Robertson also returned to the team after missing out on the previous match.
Groats started the game of well in the opening minutes with Pentland Utd not able to get out of their own half, resulting in them conceding a corner kick and a free kick on the edge of the box but Groats unable to convert the chances.
Pentland Utd upped the pace as expected and scored within the opening 11 minutes of the game, disappointing for Groats as it was practically the oppositions first chance of the game and they put it away.
Sweeping winds across the John O'Groats pitch made playing conditions slightly difficult however both teams battled on. Pentland Utd put on further pressure resulting in some superb saves by Groats keeper Henderson on the mark of half time.
John O'Groats started the 2nd half like the first with some good play by Muir feeding the ball through to the strikers. Groats best chance of the game came from top scorer Derek Munro as his shot just dipped past Michael Gray's post.
Pentland Utd had further chances but Kevin Morris was unable to beat Henderson who pulled off some further superb saves. Groats last chance of the game fell to D. Munro but his weak shot was easily saved by Michael Gray.
John O'Groats certainly put up a brave battling display against the title challengers and could have came out the game with a point. Young defender Stewart Sinclair coping well with the presence off Kevin Morris up front. Groats however moved down to 7th in the league as Workshops took 3 points of Wick Rovers. John O'Groats now knowing that every point is vital to avoid relegation.
