1. What sort of oil should I use ?
It is generally recommended that a quality non-sythetic oil is used as the engine needs to burn excess oil injected into the rotor housing. About a litre of oil per 1K miles is usual.

2. What is a stage 1 upgrade ?

Replacing the air filter for a induction kit, fitting hi-flow catalytic convertor (or removal of Cat) and hi-flow back box usually constitues a stage 1 upgrade. This gives you between 15-25 extra HP
3. When does the engine require a re-build?
The over quoted figure is 80k miles, but many factors effect the life of the engine. A compression test usually gives a better indication on the remaining time left. The difference between a new engine and rebuild is slight. In my opinion its best to leave the re-build until it don/t run any more !!
4. How much should I pay for a......
        a. 1st Gen. RX-7
        b. 2nd Gen. RX-7
        c. 3rd Gen. RX-7
How long is a piece of string.....
a. expect to pay anything from £300 to £3000           depending on condition for a 1st Gen.
b. expect to pay anything from £1k to £6K. Latter Gen.2 Turbo convertables are rare and one in good condition can fetch £5k.
c. expect to pay £4-5k for an early 92' model, £6-10k for a 95 and upto £20K for a 99-2000..

5. What is detonation ?
I'm not sure yet, but it happens when the engine runs lean, and its really bad !!!
6. What is overboost ?
This usually occurs after a stage 1 upgrade, especially on cold days. With the air path flow increased the secondary turbo can over spool and produce too much pressure for the standard settings of the ECU. The ECU then shuts down fuel feed to the 2nd Rotor to protect the engine.
7. What size wheels can I fit ?

The maximum size used by mazda as factory standard was 17" with 225's. 19" can be fitted wit lo-profile tyres. 18's just fit on R2 type suspension.

8. What fuel should I use ?
Super-unleaded or Optimax is highly recommended especially on a stage 1 and above upgrade.
