Cumbrian slate was formed about 85 million years ago as the result of volcanic activity. It is made up mainly of volcanic ash and lava, and is more of a rock than a slate. The changes in colours and beautiful markings were helped by water and other matter trapped in the rock.

Cumbrian slate is a very hard material and can be polished leaving a very durable finish. It is ideal for outdoor and indoor use and needs very little or no maintenance.

Cumbrian slate is quarried from various areas of the Lake District. Colours vary as to the area it was quarried.

Cumbrian Green is green in colour but varies from pale greens to olive greens, and also has markings ranging from speckled through to lines.

Blue Grey is a very even, consistent colour, with the presence of a faint silver grey line. It polishes to an "almost black".

Simply choose your font style from the styles illustrated here, and the colour of slate you prefer. Always remember that the slate is a natural product and will vary in colour and grain.
