Gumbleton of Co. Cork
Gumbleton, Robert-Warren, of Patrick’s Hill co. Cork m. Margaret, dau of John Bowen, Esq of Oak Grove, co. Cork, and had (with several daus.) five sons, viz,
- Richard of Castle View, co. Waterford, m. Miss Fowke, of co. Gloucester, and has issue, Robert and Margaret
- John Bowen, Barrister at Law, m. the dau. of Henry Everard, Esq, of Spalding, Lincoln, and has issue, 2 daus.
- George in holy orders, of Mount Rivers, Cappoquin, Vicar of the united parishes of Affane and Aglish, in the diocese of Waterford
- William d. unm.
- Robert, Lieut. 4th Light Dragoons dunm.
Mr Gumbleton s. to the representation on the death (unm.) of his eldest brother, the late Richard-Edward Gumbleton Esq in 1818
Lineage
This family is supposed to have been originally from Kent, but the period of its settlement in Ireland is unknown. Ballygarron Castle & Manor beautifully situated on the river Blackwater, near Lismore co. Waterford, were purchased about 150 years ago by Richard Gumbleton esq. who left them to his son Richard Gumbleton esq, high sheriff of co. Waterford in 1732 who was father of Richard Gumbleton, Esq. who m. Miss Conner of Connerville co. Cork by whom he had several sons and daus. of whom the eldest, Richard m. Miss Hamilton of co. Donegal; the second William of Fort William, near Lismore d.unm., and the third is Robert Warren Gumbleton Esq, present representative.
