Conner

Cornelius Conner Esq was the 1st of the family who settled in co. Cork. His name and that of his son Daniel appear in the Jacobite Corporation of Bandon in 1689. His will bears date 1 Sep 1719. His son Daniel Conner of Bandon, Merchant, purchased estates principally situate in co. Cork. He m. and had issue,

Maxwell of Dalswinton

The family of Maxwell of Dalswinton is descended from Maxwell of Pollok.
John Maxwell an advocate at the Scottish Bar purchased the barony of Dalswinton in Nithsdale in 1649. By his wife Jane Nisbet he had 2 daus. Marion and Rachel. The eldest dau.
Marion Maxwell m. 1670, Hugh Maxwell (son of George Maxwell of Auldhouse by his 3rd wife Janet Douglas dau. of Douglas of Waterside co. Dumfries) and had 2 sons, George and James, the latter d. unm.. The elder son George Maxwell 2nd of Dalswinton m. 1700 Jane Campbell and by her had 4 sons & 2 daus. The eldest son Hugh Maxwell 3rd Dalswinton m. in 1727 Jane 2nd dau. of Sir William Douglas of Kelhead. By this marriage he had six sons and one dau. These were,

William who s. his father
George William accidentally shot at Twyning Gloucestershire. He m. Ann heiress of Peter Handcock of Twyning Manor by whom he had one son and 4 daus.

1. Anne Maxwell m. Rev. JW Young of Birmingham dsp.
2. Jane Charlotte Maxwell who m. Henry Fowke of Tewkesbury. Their children were
  1. Anne Rachel Fowke who m. Richard Gumbleton of Glanatore, co. Cork. Their only surviving son was Richard John Maxwell Gumbleton who on the death of his aunt succeeded to the Manor of Twyning.
  2. Jane Mary Fowke wife of Post-capt. Stocker RN and dsp. 8 Aug 1881
3. Helen Frances Maxwell of Twyning s. to that Manor on the death of her brother William George Maxwell. She d. unm. 14 Jul 1858 and on her death the manor devolved to her niece Mrs. Stocker, as aforesaid from whom it was inherited by Mr Gumbleton

The eldest son William Maxwell 4th of Dalswinton b. 1728 a Major in the army. He m. Mary Boscawen dau. of Viscount Falmouth but had no issue. He became so involved by the failure of the bank of Douglas, Heron & co, Ayr, in which he was a shareholder that he was obliged to sell Dalswinton in 1786.
