| He lived in Compton Abbas in Dorset: he then moved to Warminster to be brought up by
his aunt Rose.
He was a wheelwright and coffin maker. He travelled to Chepstow by the 'New Passage', then on to Wentwood where he continued his trade as a wheelwright. He became a lay preacher in the surrounding district before settling in Llanvaches to become a Wesleyan Minister, after attending theological college.
