Every year the residents of Waverton make an award to the best British debut novel published in the previous 12 months. 61 novels have been submitted for the 2009/10 award.
The 2008/09 winner, in a very close contest, was Tom Rob Smith for Child 44
In 2008/09 the Award has been sponsored by Borders (Cheshire Oaks), who are providing a prize of £1000 for the winning author
The winner was announced on Saturday 4th July 2009 and the award dinner will be on Friday 13th November. Tickets can be reserved now.

The next meeting is on Monday 30th November. The speaker is Andrew Sharp, author of The Ghosts of Eden a powerful novel set in Uganda.
The previous meeting was at Waverton Primary School at 7.30pm on Monday 14th September. The speaker was Jenn Ashworth, author of A Kind of Intimacy, her first novel. The meeting was very well attended by more than 80 people, who responded enthusiastically to Jen's talk.
