SO WHO THE HELL ARE WE ? AND WHAT DO WE DO ? Well, WE IS ME...... Christopher Beaumont -
Director/Producer Chris has been working in theatre for nineteen years as an actor, musician, writer and director. He has worked in over fifty plays in Rep., the West End, and on TV and Film. His experience in different genres of theatre is extensive, ranging from the classics having played 'Hamlet', 'MacDuff' in MACBETH, and 'Orlando' in AS YOU LIKE IT, through to 'Clov' in Samuel Beckett's ENDGAME (which he has also directed) and 'McCann' and 'Aston' in Harold Pinter's THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and THE CARETAKER respectively. Over recent years, Chris, established himself as a prominent performer in the "actor-musician" mould and appeared in shows such as "THE RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET" (West End), "PATSY CLINE - THE MUSICAL" (National Tour) and "IT'S MY PARTY" at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch. As a result of these shows, Chris started work on the script for "2ND HONEYMOON - The Musical" which made it's World Premiere at the Brighton International Festival in 1997, starring many of the west end performers with whom he had worked over the years, including director, Carole Todd, who had directed Chris in "IT'S MY PARTY". WE DO THIS..... Hanover Productions is a Brighton based company, set up in 1996 primarily to produce the world premiere of a new homegrown musical, "2ND HONEYMOON", but also with a view to ultimately producing more paid professional work for the vast number of actors, writers, musicians, directors and technical staff who live in the Brighton area, but due to the fact that we do not have a venue producing it's own work 'In-House', as it were, rarely get a chance to work in their home town. It is our aim to take both recognised pieces (some classics) and new plays, to produce a programme each year which will involve the full spectrum of talents available to us. Above all our main objective is to make the plays entertaining and accessible to all, be they straight plays, musicals or comedies. If we can make our audiences laugh, cry, think or scare the pants off them, then we will have given them something valuable to take home. Whilst we are aiming to be a touring company, performing in small-middle scale venues, we will always open each show in Brighton for a limited run before moving outwards to other areas. To date we have worked on a somewhat ad-hoc basis, producing shows for the Brighton Festival in 1997 & 98, and have begun to establish an excellent reputation in the town for the quality of our work. However...... Hanover Productions recieves NO funding from any government or public funding body. Nothing from Local Government, The Arts Council of Great Britain, South East Arts or any other organisation which funds the arts. Our work is considered far too 'populist' or 'commercial' and does not meet the artistic criteria of these bodies. The fact that we try to do work that the public will want to come to see and that they might have an interest in, holds no water with these organisations. Our Funding comes entirely from corporate sponsorship and from ticket revenue. Click BRIGHTON.CO.UK for more about our town! ( City? )
