BMD
During my researches I have extracted BARDWELL entries from the GRO indexes of Births, Marriages
and Deaths from 1837. These are for events registered in England & Wales. The results of my labours so far are available here.
NOTES:
- As most of my transcribing was from microfiche copies of the indexes, some names
were indistinct or unreadable. Therefore you are advised to check entries.
- The GRO indexes (formerly at St Catherines House) are held at The Family Records Centre, 1 Myddelton Street, London from where certificates may be ordered in person. Certificates may be ordered online at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/
- Copies of the GRO indexes may also be viewed on microfilm or microfiche at many libraries and Family History Centres worldwide. Indexes may be searched free online at www.FreeBMD.org.uk, an ongoing project. Digital images of the indexes may also be viewed at several commercial websites.
- Some local Registrars and Family History Societies are indexing the local registrars’ indexes – see www.ukbmd.org.uk.
Wills/Admons
During my researches I have extracted all BARDWELL entries from the PRFD indexes of Wills and Administrations from 1858 to 1922. These are for grants made in England & Wales. The results of my labours are available here.
NOTES:
- The indexes (or ‘calendars’) contain more information: whether will or administration (admon), place of death, addresses, value of estate, etc. Therefore you are advised to check entries yourself.
- A Grant of Representation is a document issued by the Court which enables the person or persons named in it to deal with the assets and belongings (the estate) of the deceased.
There are three types of grant of representation:
- Probate: issued to the executors named in the will.
- Letters of administration with will: issued to someone other than the named executors.
- Letters of administration: issued when the deceased did not leave a will.
- The PRFD indexes (formerly at Somerset House) are held at the Principal Registry of the Family Division, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London.
‘The Times’
I have extracted all BARDWELL entries from Palmers Index to ‘The Times’ on CD-ROM.
NOTES:
- ‘The Times’ has been published in London since 1788.
- Quarterly and/or annual indexes exist in book form.
- The index on CD-ROM used covers the period 1790-1905.
