Otters (Horizontals)

Otters suffered a massive decline between the 1930's and 1960's due to pollution and hunting. Since 1978 they have beeen fully protected and this coupled with a decdrease in the level of harmful pollutants, has allowed this species to slowly recover and to re-conquer their lost range. To facilitate their recovery otters have been re-introduced to some areas, especially in East Anglia, and otter holts have been built to provide safe breeding dens.
