Marcus Dodd, with Andrew Bargery by his side in a Hyundi Accent
WRC made the most of the snowy stages on March 18th to secure his win
over last years winners Barry Johnson and Stewart Merry, by a mere 25.3
seconds.
Dodd took an early 7.8s lead in stage 1 but
troubles in stage 3 gave Johnson a 25.2s overall lead. Stage 4 saw Dodd
fight back and steam 12.2s ahead. Not to be outdone Johnson reined the
leader in and by stage 6 had a 4 second lead on the pair. Up for the
challenge Dodd reversed the roles in stage 7 with a one second lead and
never looked back, opening the lead to 22.3s on stage 8 and 25.3s on the
final "snowy" stage 9. [more]

The wild hills of
Kielder tested the cars and crews over stretches of thick snow
on the ground at the higher levels. SS2, Ogre Hill, was
lost to the snow, as marshals, rescue and radio crews were
unable to take up their stations. It did however run as stage 9
after some active clearing work by the organisers.
The National B event was won by Alan
Dickson and Martin Frost in their Subaru Impreza WRC99, by an
even closer 7.3s lead over Andy Kelly and Doug Redpath in a
Mitsubishi Evo 8.
Borderers Brian Middlemas and
Eldon Hall in the Red Avenger made it home to take the Historics
trophy.
