The seven stage, six for the Group B
competitors, once again used the Kielder forest as the main venue.
Starting in Jedburgh the crews challenged their first 6 mile stage in
Wauchope Forest before heading south over the border for some 7.5 miles
at Ogre Hill. A quick service then off to Simonside, which is a high
spot for miles around and left the start marshals exposed to the
freezing hailstones and snow showers that peppered the day, and the cars
as they hurtled down the 8 miles stage in low visibility during the
showers. Staying in the forest the competitors trundled down to
the start of Fallowlees for a 7 miler to complete the downhill slalom
towards Elsdon village. A return to service before competing over
Byreness, Ogre Hill in reverse, before the Group A cars regrouped and
challenged a combined Simonside and Fallowlees, a 15 miler that tested
the crews concentration to the limits to keep the cars on the now well
used stage. For a selection of what happened to whom, and what some of
the competitors were heard to say, click on
