Run by the De Lacy Mororsport Club this revival of times past attracted famous names of the Clark era, including Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikkola.

Twentyfive stages over four days covered a route from the start at Sheffield to  Carlisle and the Kielder forest stages of the original RAC rallies, and down to Croft before finishing at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.

Bannister and Rae led from the start, even as the field depleted by Monday 22nd. Robert Dick tried hard from second place to catch the pair but could not match Bannister's pace.

The Yorkshire man won the Open Rally in his Ford Escort while husband and wife team Chris and Hilary Green won the Historic award in their Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1.
