| Stobs Classic - 12 June
After
a competitive day of special tests in Stobs Camp, Hawick the MG Midget
of Archie and Richard Simmonds claimed victory on the Hawick &
Border Car Club’s Porter’s Porches Stobs Classic Rally. From a
reduced entry of 18 classic cars, it was the Morris Mini of Tom Hall
and Tony Chrisp that set the early pace across the opening tests,
however, the Simmonds crew got the bit between the teeth clawing back
time during the late morning and early afternoon. [more]
Charterhall Stages - 2 April by Richard Crozier Young
upcoming star versus the experienced old hand. The young gun leads for
most of the event, only to roll the car on the penultimate stage, but
amazingly loses only 20 seconds, setting up a dramatic last stage
climax as both contenders e...nter the arena level on time.
The
youngster sets a blistering pace and looks to have it in the bag, but
OH NO! Mechanical gremlins in the dying moments cost him vital time,
handing the win to the wise old fox, and the car grinds to a halt just
after the finish.
The crew have to push the car to
the end,
almost collapsing in the baking heat (artistic licence applied here),
heartbroken, but nonetheless arriving in the paddock to rapturous
applause, having won over a new legion of fans. Their time will come...

Porter's
Porches Stobs
Classic 2010
Archie
and Richard Simmonds returned to defend their title on the 2010 Porters
Porches Stobs Classic 2010 on Sunday 13th June. 27
starters lined up at Stobs Camp near Hawick for 16 tests across the
former world war
one army camp. Whilst the leaderboard
changed, it
was to be the Simmonds day again. Even the Grand
Finale test, a set of four tests joined together, was won by
the pair after the Escort RS crew who were 9 seconds ahead, hit a cone
incurring a 10 seconds penalty. Defeat stolen from the jaws of victory!
The event was a round in the Macmillan series, and a raffle raised
£200. [more]

Heavy
Snow Blocks Saltire
Classic - 27 Feb
Following
heavy snowfalls earlier in the week, the Saltire Rally Club
had no alternative but to postpone the Edradour Saltire Classic Rally.
The route and test venues were mostly snowbound, with the route reduced
to the width of a snowplough blade in places, and were passable only
with extreme caution or with a 4 wheel drive. Access to Kenmore was
very difficult, and some principal roads further south and north were
only passable with care and not suitable for those with trailers.
The organisers trust that entrants understand the difficult position.
Safety of competitors, marshals, general public and the reputation of
the sport must come first. [more]

A
snow covering to make a White Christmas is exciting for the kids, but
when it gets in the way of our motorsport it's a bit of a pain! HBCC,
along with other clubs running early events, had to postpone the annual
Hangover autotest on 2nd January due to deep snow covering the site. As
the location is in a valley down a farm road, the added risk of getting
in and not out also played a big part in taking the decision.

Dave
MacLellan
A great sadness was felt across all the border motorsport clubs
following the loss of Dave Maclellan on Friday 8th December 2005. Dave
worked tirelessly for the benefit of BECC, BDMC, and HBCC. He produced
and organised much of the documentation for the Jim Clark Memorial, and
Border Counties Rallies, as well as newsletters, flyers etc. With an
artistic background he also coached others with muscular dystrophy in
painting, woodworking, and desktop publication. Graham Galloway in his
Anglia and Brian Middlemass in his Avenger provided a rally "flypast"
roar for Dave at the funeral on Thursday 15th. Our condolences go out
