SWINDON OPEN ...
27 August 2005 - Andy Jenkins beats Lionel Smith and Andy Smith in the last two rounds to win the event at the Green Baize Club.

WINMAU WORLD MASTERS ENGLISH PLAY-OFF ...
21 August 2005 - Basingstoke's Roy Brown has won through to the Bridlington finals in the men's play off. He won his opening clash against Martin Richards 2-1, then beat Paul Wade by 2-0. In the final match his opponent was John Blair who he beat 2-1.

Anthony Whitcher made the the last 32 of the play off to supply 8 winners by winning his first match against Sammy Wilson 2-0 but went down by the same scoreline to Bob Phillips in the next.

Pennie Lewis reached the last 16 of the ladies qualifying event which provides 4 qualifiers. She won her first match against Susan Bird from Sussex 3-0, her second against Cleveland's Gail Carhart by 3-1 but was finally eliminated 3-0 by eventual qualifier, Suffolk's former England international, Sue Talbot.

Paul Hogan is already assured of a place in the grand finals by virtue of holding the British Classic title.


BRITISH CHAMPIONS' CUP ...
21 August 2005 - Gosport Select's brave attempt to defend their national title started with a 7-2 win over East Stirlingshire's Falkirk B in the quarter finals and was followed by another 7-2 win over Tipton from the West Midlands in the semi-final. Unfortunately they lost narrowly 4-5 to Yorkshire's Markham SC in the final who they had beaten in the 2004 final to win the title. Bournemouth Ladies won the equivalent ladies title, beating Harrow Borough 4-3 in their final.

MORE LOCAL COMPETITIONS  ...
17 August 2005 - A couple of reminders about some upcoming competitions in the south of the county:

On Saturday 3rd September 2005 Boddington's Brewery have a £500 first prize up for grabs at the Hampshire Rose, Widley, just north of Portsmouth. Prize money goes down to the last eight and entries are £5 per player. Register 10:00 a.m. for 11:00 a.m. start. Contact Danny Hansford on 07771-605578 for full details. There is a cut off date of 30th August for entries.

On Saturday 15th October the annual RNA Gosport Open takes place. There will be some £700 available in the prize fund and more details can be obtained from Keith Palmer (01329-233266), Brian Kennett (01329-827134) or Lee Muckett (07890-286974).

WDF RANKINGS ...
15 August 2005 - Paul Hogan reaches an all time high of 8th in the Mens WDF Table. Jane Monaghan is 39th in equivalent Ladies table. The top 5 places in each table at the end of the calendar year win cash prizes.

NORWEGIAN OPEN ...
14 August 2005 - Paul Hogan reaches the semi final of the Norwegian Open Mens Pairs with Andy Morris.

BRITISH CHAMPIONS' CUP ...
14 August 2005 - Gosport Select Men have qualified for the grand finals next weekend as they aim to retain their national team title. They had wins over opponents from Berkshire (5-4), Buckinghamshire (6-3) and Surrey (5-4). Unfortunately former national champions Shirley Ladies did not qualify in their event and only reached the semi finals.

BASINGSTOKE OPEN ...
14 August 2005 - Bob Crawley beat Colin Monk 4-1 in the final at the Oakridge West Community Centre to take the Basingstoke Open title. Andy Jenkins and Dennis Smith won the Pairs title for the third year in a row beating Colin Monk and James Wade in the final.

NORWEGIAN OPEN ...
13 August 2005 - Jane Monaghan reaches the last sixteen of the Norwegian Open Ladies Singles in Tønsberg before losing out to Carina Ekberg of Sweden.

HAMPSHIRE PLAYER WINS CARIBBEAN TRIP ...
3 August 2005 - Congratulations to Hampshire County B player Ricky Cull who has won a trip to the DHL Barbados Darts Festival, in association with Stan James.
 
Ricky was among over seven hundred players from around the world to enter the competition on the Professional Darts Council's website in the build-up to the Stan James World Matchplay.
 
The prize includes flights and accommodation for Ricky and a partner, along with entry fees into the variety of darts events that make up the Barbados Darts Festival.

They will also get the chance to receive expert advice from former World Champions John Lowe, Eric Bristow and Deta Hedman during the festival.

The prize is worth in excess of £2,000 and Ricky will be able to see the pick of the Caribbean's players attempt to make the World Championship finals in Purfleet during his trip.


IDPA PLAYER OF THE MONTH ...
2 August 2005 - Paul Hogan is named IDPA player of the month for July 2005.

WORLD RANKINGS ...
1 August 2005 - The Professional Darts Corporation's latest ranking table has several players with Hampshire connections listed.

Cosham's Andy Jenkins is the highest at 9th and Aldershot's James Wade at 31st and Basingstoke's Colin Monk in 36th will both be keen to ensure that they end November inside the top 32 in order to qualify by right with Andy for the £500,000 Ladbrokes World Championship.

Further down the list Bob Crawley is 90th, Ian Critchett 161st, Robert Heard 184th, Aaron Turner 191st, Ian Eames 224th, Peter Castle 276th and Jason Crawley 298th.

In the lower reaches of the table Sam Rooney can be found in 362nd, Paul Hogan 420th, Mick Cookman 570th and Steve Phipps 701st.

Cliff Lazarenko, who played for Hampshire when they first joined the Inter County League in the early seventies is still inside the top 50 at number 48. Cliff has been a professional player for close on thirty years.

Other players with Hampshire links in the list are Simon Whatley, who played one season at 42nd and Dave Anderson, now back in Australia, lies 245th.

Winchester-born former World Champion Bob Anderson, another player who boasts some twenty five years as a professional is 20th and Mark Thomson, the current Hampshire Open Champion, a former resident of Portsmouth is 37th.
