LADBROKES.COM WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP ... |
|
31
December 2004 -
Andy Jenkins has been involved in some exceptional television
matches throughout 2004. This event was to prove no exception. Just
as in Bolton, Las Vegas, Blackpool and Dublin Andy was edged out in
a thrilling match. In today's
fourth round Andy came up against old friend Kevin Painter. Andy
took the opening set before Kevin replied with two sets back to
back. Andy then forged ahead 3-2 before Kevin staged a remarkable
comeback and took the match by reeling off six of the last seven
legs. |

CHRISTMAS
COMPETITIONS ... |
28 December 2004 -
At Monday's Cosham Open Aussie Simon "The Wizard" Whitlock (left)
beat England International Paul Hogan in the final.
A remarkable feat considering he had
only been in the UK about six hours and had come to the event
directly from the airport.
Simon joins an impressive list of
previous winners with the earlier events being won by Lionel Sams,
Andy Jenkins and James Wade all of whom were in World Championship
action this week.
The Australian first came to
prominence two years ago in the World Championship at Purfleet when
he ousted Peter Manley before going down to Richie Burnett. Since
then he has dominated his domestic scene in Australia and currently
holds a number of the biggest titles down under and is here for a
tilt at the Lakeside World title next week.
Not content with this Simon then
went to the resurrected Eastleigh Open the following day and picked
that title up as well with a win over Sam Rooney. Colin Monk had won
both previous stagings of this event in 1999 and 2000.
Jane Monaghan won the first Cosham
Ladies Open beating Stacey Wheeler but could only come second to
Laura Power in the Eastleigh Open.
James Wade and Sally Smith took the
top prize at the Metropole Mixed Pairs in Deepcut also held on
Tuesday beating Steve Shadwell and Debbie Porter. |

CHAMPIONSHIP ... |
|
26 December 2004 -
James Wade was unfortunate to run into a resurgent Mark Holden in
the opening round of the event. The “Top Banana” was in devastating
form as he led two nil and despite a spirited fightback and an 11
darter that gave James the lead in the third set Mark continued in
the same rich vein of form to run out a 3-0 winner. |

Crawley and James Wade are in the same group together with such
players as Mark Landers, Andy Hayfield and Matt Chapman.
In the other play-off at South Shields

December 2004 -
Straight after the tough qualifying competition for the World

December 2004 -
James Wade won through the tough Ladbrokes.com World Championship
Qualifier at Hull and takes his place in the Grand Finals.
Despite some good performances none of
the other Hampshire players were able to join James and Andy Jenkins
