Last year's event was won by Mark Walsh who defeated Ronnie Baxter in the final from a field comprising many of the game's leading stars.

HOLSTEN PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS 2006 ...
29 December 2005 - Local darts fans have an excellent chance of seeing the top players in action in the Holsten Premier League Darts 2006 with match nights scheduled for both Bournemouth for those in the south of the county and Reading for those in the north of the county.

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is delighted to announce that Holsten Pils will be the title sponsor of the 2006 Premier League Darts.

The Holsten Premier League Darts will start on February 16 at St George's Hall, Blackburn and culminate with a finals night to be played in Plymouth at the end of May.  Matches between seven top professionals take place on Thursday nights at ten different venues across the country. All matches will be screened live on Sky Sports One.

Last year’s winner, Phil Taylor, will defend his trophy against opponents who include current world number one Colin Lloyd, Premier League newcomer Ronnie Baxter, Dutch star Roland Scholten and crowd favourite Wayne Mardle. The final two players will be confirmed in January shortly after the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship

The top four from the league series will progress to the play-offs, where £50,000 is on offer to the winner of the final and £30,000 to the runner-up from the total prize fund of £167,500, making the Holsten Premier League Darts the second most lucrative event on the PDC’s £2m-plus circuit.

“Holsten Pils leads the Pils category and by uniting with darts, the second most watched sport on Sky Sports, we have a fantastic opportunity to put ourselves at the heart of British popular culture,” said Gareth Roberts, Sponsorship Controller at Carlsberg UK.

Tim Darby, PDC Chief Executive, is also delighted with the new sponsorship package:  “Premier League Darts has become a firm favourite with both players and fans alike. We had lots of great games with some dramatic comebacks last year so I’m sure the 2006 Holsten Premier League Darts will be even more successful.”

Holsten Premier League matches are scheduled to take place in Blackburn, Sunderland, Aberdeen, Wolverhampton, Bournemouth, Carlisle, Newport, Doncaster and Reading. The play-offs will take place on May 29 at Plymouth Pavilions.

The Bournemouth International Centre hosts the event on March 23 and tickets go on sale on December 30 from the box office on 0870 1113000.

The Reading Rivermead will see the last of 2006's league action on May 4 and tickets will go on sale from January 9 from the box office on 0118 9606060.

FIFTH COSHAM OPEN ...
27 December 2005 - Phil Wathen from Middlesex follows some illustrious names to take the prestigious Cosham Open title. He defeated Basingstoke's Paul Hogan who is in world championship action at Lakeside in the New Year.

Incredibly this was the third successive final defeat in the event for Paul. Phil collected £200 and Paul £100. Semi finalists Dennis Murrell and Kevin White picked up £50 each. Scott Richardson, Jamie Robinson, Danny Smith and Graham Hollis reached the last eight winning £15.

Jane Monaghan beat Lisa Bramble in the Ladies final and retained the title she won in 2004.

Almost eighty players took part in the well run events at the Cosham RBL and a total prize fund of over £500 was paid out.

LADBROKES.COM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2 ...
26 December 2005 - WAYNE JONES knocked number eight seed Andy Jenkins out of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 4-3 victory in Monday's second round.
Jones came through the qualifiers to reach round three last year, and has already equalled that feat after impressive comebacks against James Wade and Jenkins.
As in his first round match, Jones conceded a two-set lead to his opponent before fighting back to take the win.
World number eight Jenkins looked in determined mood, winning the first set 3-1 and hitting a 161 finish on his way to the second set.
Wolverhampton-based Jones found another gear to take three successive sets, winning the third without reply and the next two 3-2, including two ton-plus finishes.
Jenkins won the sixth set to take the game into a decider, but Jones took three straight legs, with a 141 in the second leg knocking the stuffing out of his opponent as he sealed the match.
"I'm very pleased," said Jones. "Once again I started slowly but if I play like that I'm capable of winning a few more games.
"I'm not a very good starter. Once I'm comfortable on the throw it's not too bad, but I missed a lot of doubles and started to throw fast instead of stopping and aiming.
"That cost me a few legs, but overall I can't complain. I could have won the second set, I had shots galore and it was playing on my mind.
"I've got to get better on my finishing.
"I'm happy with the way I'm going and I'll keep on until somebody beats me - hopefully nobody will!"

LADBROKES.COM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 ...
22 December 2005 - ANDY SMITH celebrated his Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship debut with a 3-0 win over Colin Monk.
Smith was the highest-ranked player to miss out on automatic qualification for the tournament after lifting himself to 33rd in the world rankings.
However, he ensured a berth in the second round with a solid display to see off his close friend.
He edged the first set 3-2 after Monk missed double top to go ahead, and piled on the pressure by taking a 2-0 lead in the second.
While Monk pulled back the third leg, Smith hit double top to take the set.
He then won the next 3-1 to set up a second round meeting with American Ray Carver.
"Colin didn't play as well as he can and once you get in front you've got to take advantage, and that's what I did," said Smith.
"I kept steady and stepped in when he made mistakes, and things went well for me. I hit the doubles, and that's the main thing.
"I've got great respect for him, he's a top bloke and a brilliant darts player but it was a bit one-sided today.
"I'm just glad that I've done okay."
Smith has struggled with ligament damage in his elbow throughout 2005, but said: "It was okay today.
"I've ripped some ligaments in my arm and a sports physio has given me massage, but it hasn't quite knitted back together.
"I still get pain after playing in tournaments over a weekend, but hopefully it will be okay for the rest of the tournament."

LADBROKES.COM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 ...
20 December 2005 - ANDY JENKINS moved into the second round of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 3-1 win over Belgian Patrick Bulen.
The world number eight set up a second round clash with Wayne Jones on Boxing Day with a powerful display.
He began the contest by winning the first leg with a 134 checkout, and took the opening set 3-1.
Bulen hit back with a 102 finish in the next leg, and took the second set 3-2 after Jenkins came back to take it into a decider.
The Belgian qualifier also moved ahead in the third set, but three straight legs from Jenkins saw him move 2-1 ahead in the match.
Despite a fourth maximum of the game from Bulen in the fourth set, Jenkins produced the finishes to complete the victory.
"I probably made it tougher than it was," admitted Jenkins. "I missed a few doubles and he played well.
"I didn't know much about him, but I just wanted to win and get Christmas out of the way - it wouldn't have been much fun at all if I'd lost!
"I played well in the first two sets but let him in a couple of times. I'll hopefully come back better after Christmas, which will suit me more."

His next match will be against Wayne Jones who has already ended the hopes of stablemate James Wade. The match takes place on the evening of 26th December.

LADBROKES.COM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 ...
19 December 2005 - WAYNE JONES produced a superb comeback to end James Wade's hopes of progressing at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship. Jones, a PDPA Qualifier from Wolverhampton, looked set for an early exit from the Circus Tavern after losing the first six legs to go 2-0 down.
But a run of six successive legs saw him turn that deficit into a level game at 2-2 and a lead in the deciding set at 2-0.
Wade suddenly regained his form, pulling back from the brink of defeat to level matters and take the game into sudden death.
The 22-year-old then edged ahead at 3-2 before Jones battled back to hit an 81 checkout and victory.
"I started terribly and couldn't put three darts in the same place," admitted Jones.
"At 2-0 down I thought it was all over but I fought back and my finishing in those six legs was lovely.
"James is a good player, but there's a lot of pressure up there and I didn't play as well as I'd like to have done."
