BRITISH YOUTH KO CUP ...
31 July 2004 - Early defeats for both Hampshire Teams at Kettering in the British Youth KO Cup as the A side are eliminated 2-5 by Breconshire A and the B side are pipped 3-4 by Warwickshire A. Essex A eventually take the title with a win over Cambridgeshire in the final.

BRITISH TEENAGE CHAMPIONSHIP ...
31 July 2004 - Horndean's three time England Youth International Jason Crawley (pictured left) makes the semi-finals of the British Teenage Championship at Kettering. On the way he beats Richie George, son of the former double News of the World Champion and twice World Championship runner up Bobby George. He is finally defeated by Daniel Meredith from Glamorgan who loses to Kirk Shepherd in the final who adds this title to his World Youth Masters crown from last November. Ricky Williams and Mike Clarkson both reach the last 16 before losing out to Russell Mason and Stephen Bunting respectively.

STAN JAMES WORLD MATCHPLAY QUARTER FINALS ...
29 July 2004 - Yet again Andy Jenkins (pictured left) comes close to toppling John Part the number 1 Player in the World Rankings. Excellent finishing including a 153 and 146 saw Andy command the early stages to lead 11-7 before John hit the form that has propelled him to the top of the tree to finally emerge the victor 16-14.

The twice former World Champion now faces the power of Phil Taylor who was at his relentless best in the semi-finals. Part has recently been getting the better of their televised bouts with three wins from the last four.

Talking afterwards Part admitted that the only difference between the players is his experience in front of the cameras in the big events.

"I think it was my ability to stay focused under pressure, even if I made mistakes. Even though Andy was taking out big finishes when I was on a double I just put it to the back of my mind."

Jenkins, whilst disappointed to be out was pleased with his performances this week.

"I'm proud of how I played. John's number one and I pushed him all the way. My only failing was that I began to think about winning instead of my opponent, but I'll learn from it."

"Andy's day will come, he was lethal on the doubles early on," said Part

"He's a cracking player but there are no easy matches any more, the standards have risen massively. That was real hard work but I expected it to be. I'm too drained to be overjoyed really.

"It's 105 degrees on stage so it takes a lot of mental energy to concentrate. I was a little disappointed with my scoring but I've sent out a message to Phil and the rest of the boys that I never give in and they know that."

STAN JAMES WORLD MATCHPLAY SECOND ROUND ...
28 July 2004 - Andy Jenkins survives a late rally by his sometimes Pairs partner Dennis Smith in a blistering encounter at Blackpool. He wins 17-15 to set up a tilt at top ranked John Part.

"God, that was hard work, I was playing a great friend and a quality player," said Jenkins.

"His strength, no matter how far behind he is is that he never goes away and he just keeps going.

"I'll admit though, I did think I'd won it before I crossed the finish line and I put myself under more pressure than I needed too. I was never behind in 32 legs of darts so I was always confident.

"I just kept thinking about John Part, and how he got away with it against Bob last night."

Jenkins also admitted that he was where he wanted to be.

"I looked at the draw and saw that I'd meet John Part in the quarters and that is what's going to happen," he said. "I'm under no illusions, he's ranked No.1 in the world and it's no fluke.

"But I know what I'm capable of, I'm growing up a bit as a player and even though I may not be ready to win a major title we'll just see what happens."

STAN JAMES WORLD MATCHPLAY FIRST ROUND ...
26 July 2004 - Andy Jenkins is in spectacular form as he throws half a dozen maximums to remove the legendary John Lowe from the Blackpool field. The former world champion rolled back the years with some dazzling darts to lead 4-1 at the first interval but Andy weathers the storm and rides out a 10-6 winner in an epic encounter. John Lowe acknowledged after the match that it could well have been his swansong at the Winter Gardens but if he can reproduce that kind of form on the Open circuit, he will be back next year at the age of sixty.

"I was pleased with my performance because a few years ago in that situation (down 1-4) I would have folded,” said Jenkins.

"I played a true ambassador of the game today but I was really surprised with how well John started.

"I managed to slow him down which makes a change, because normally it’s the other way round!

“That's the first time I've played John in 13 years, and I took up the game because of people like him so it was a real pleasure today."

He added:  "I'm pleased with my form, I did well in Vegas and Bolton before that so I'm feeling pretty confident."

STAN JAMES WORLD MATCHPLAY FIRST ROUND ...
25 July 2004 - An out of form Colin Monk is totally eclipsed by John Part, the world ranked number one player on the opening night of the World Matchplay at Blackpool's Winter Gardens. Colin hardly makes any impression at all as he is crushed 10-0 only having one dart at a double all match.

BOBBY BOURN MEMORIAL EVENT ...
24 July 2004 - Andy Jenkins has a cracking run to the final of the £20,000 Bobby Bourn Memorial event at Blackpool's Winter Gardens where he goes down to Phil Taylor. On the way he eliminates two of the top four players in the world rankings, John Part and Roland Scholten. James Wade reaches the last 32 narrowly losing out to Roland Scholten and Colin Monk makes the last 64 being denied by Alex Roy. Robert Heard makes the same round going down to Colin Lloyd while Ian Eames and Martin Harper are both defeated before the ranking points and prize money.

STAN JAMES WORLD MATCHPLAY DRAW ...
2 July 2004 - At the end of the month the world's finest will gather in "The Vegas of the North" for the hugely popular World Matchplay which has £100,000 up for grabs. Perhaps therefore it was apt that the draw was made in the real "Vegas" and it will pitch Colin Monk against World Ranked Number One John Part while Andy Jenkins will be up against former triple World Champion John Lowe who will be eager to arrest his recent slide in the rankings.

DESERT CLASSIC III ...
1 July 2004 - Steve Coote plays some devastating darts in one of the all time classic televised matches to take out Andy Jenkins (pictured left) in the heat of Las Vegas.

Andy has legs of ten, eleven and twelve darts and a 156 finish during the match but it is not enough to keep the rampant Bolton fireman at bay.
