TROPHY ... |
2 June 2006 -
Basingstoke based Paul
Hogan once again qualifies for an invitation into a major Dutch TV
event.
His position of 15th in the table
used for invitation is comfortably within the top 24 that qualify by
right.
The event takes place between 2 and
10 September 2006 in "de
Vechtsebanen", Utrecht. SBS-6 TV in the Netherlands will cover the
event as usual.
Gary Robson was the surprise winner
last year but Raymond van Barneveld who won the recent International
Darts League in Nijmegen will be eager to win in front of his home
audience. Phil Taylor will however be the bookmakers' favourite. The
draw will be made on 15 July 2006.
It is not impossible for a second
Hampshire player to be taking part. The promoter's website states
that the final PDC invitation will be made to the player in fourth
position in the world rankings after the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
At the moment that could be any of Peter Manley, Wayne Mardle,
Cosham's Andy Jenkins, Mark Dudbridge or Kevin Painter. With two big
TV events coming up before the final cut off each of those players
will be keen to clinch the last place.
The players are as follows: Seeds -
Gary Anderson, Martin Adams, Mervyn King, Tony Eccles, Martin
Atkins, Michael van Gerwen, Niels de Ruiter and John Walton.
BDO invitations based on qualifying tables - Shaun Greatbatch, Simon
Whitlock, Vincent van der Voort, Paul Hanvidge, Brian Sørensen, Ted
Hankey, Paul Hogan, Mike Veitch, Gary Robson, Co Stompé, Tony
O'Shea, Göran Klemme, Albertino Essers, Tony Martin, Jelle Klaasen
and Darryl Fitton. PDC invitations based on world rankings - Colin
Lloyd, Phil Taylor, Ronnie Baxter and 4th placed player.
The four promoter's wildcards were
awarded to Mareno Michels, Dick van Dijk, Dirk Hespeels and Raymond
van Barneveld.
