Draw

There are certainly some interesting names in the draw. While the top 16 PDC ranked players are in the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut for the $300,000 World Series of Darts, TV regulars such as James Wade, Dennis Smith, Colin Monk, Lionel Sams, reigning champion Mark Thomson (pictured left) and Jimmy Mann are all eager to win this prestigious event.

Back from his recent trip to Nijmegen for the Dutch TV major, the International Darts League Paul Hogan is the only top flight WDF player laying his reputation on the line but there are plenty of other quality players in the mix such as former World Champion Les Wallace, his brother Andy, who also represented Scotland.

Former World Boys Champions Danny Ballard and Aaron Turner are in the draw and former World Number 1 Jayne Moulsley is one of several ladies taking up the challenge.

Richie Gardner is a former World Pairs champion and used to be a TV regular in the 80s and early 90s.

Glenn Toms is a former British Teenage and English National Champion and Kirk Shepherd, another former World Boys Champion is the current national junior player of the year.

Add to this the cream of county talent from Hampshire and all of the other surrounding counties and the depth of quality is just astounding.

Saturday's winner will have survived a gruelling day and won eight or nine matches to call himself, or herself the Hampshire Open Champion 2006.

13 May 2006 - Colin Lloyd underlined the reasons for his top ranking spot as he fought back from 6-8 to win 9-8 against Roland Scholten in the first semi-final at Nijmegen. Roland had narrowly missed a double 9 off 138 earlier which would have given him victory.

Roland Scholten (pictured left) was a 6-4 winner over Martin Adams and Simon Whitlock had a great sudden-death 6-5 win over thirteen time world champion Phil Taylor. Both averaged over 101 a throw.

TOPIC INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE ...
11 May 2006 - Paul Hogan completes his round robin matches at Nijmegen against Raymond van Barneveld. He eventually goes down by 7-5 recovering well from a 5-1 deficit as Raymond tops the group. Paul has to be content with the €3000 for the players eliminated in the second phase.

Roland Scholten just pips Ronnie Baxter 7-6 in a tremendous battle that really could have gone either way to qualify alongside Raymond.

Martin Adams averages 102 in beating Darryl Fitton to top group L but Michael van Gerwen (pictured left) has a sensational 7-2 win over Tony O'Shea to scrape through ahead of Darryl. Both Michael and Tony average over 105.

Pieter Collijn became the third Dutch teenager in the Bullit Junior event semi-finals with a narrow win over young Swede Oskar Lukasiak.

TOPIC INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE ...
10 May 2006 - Paul Hogan's fifth match of the week in Nijmegen was against Ronnie Baxter. Despite pressuring Ronnie's throw each time Paul found himself 5-0 down before he managed to hold his own for the first time. A break in the next gave him a glimmer of hope but Ronnie took the next two to wrap up the match by 7-2.

Dutch Master Raymond van Barneveld beat Roland Scholten 7-1 in the other group match which ensured his place in the last eight.

Paul cannot now qualify for the quarter finals even if he wins his final match against four-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld tomorrow evening. Roland and Ronnie go head-to-head for the other spot from this group in the last eight.

Other highlights from the fifth day's play include another big win for top Australian Simon Whitlock (pictured left) against Gary Robson. Ted Hankey wins and joins Simon Whitlock in the quarter finals.

Phil Taylor maintains the only 100% record left in the event with a 7-1 win over Colin Lloyd and Shaun Greatbatch beats Lakeside champion Jelle Klaasen. Taylor is through and Lloyd and Greatbatch face off for the other place in group J.

Darryl Fitton has a good win over Michael van Gerwen and Martin Adams beats Tony O'Shea. All four players in group L are still in with a chance of progressing.

Irish teenager Jason Cullen is through to the semi-finals of the Bullit Junior event. He beats another impressive young Dutch talent in Jan Dekker who wins the first leg of the televised match on 170.

TOPIC INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE ...
9 May 2006 - Paul Hogan has been in action again in Nijmegen this evening as the second phase of round robin matches got underway. Paul took the next leg but Roland took the eleventh for a 7-4 win to go top of the group.

Paul will play in a tough group in Phase 2 with Raymond van Barneveld, Roland Scholten and Ronnie Baxter. The format rises to the best of 13 legs. Paul's guaranteed prize money now goes from €2000 to €3000. If he can secure one of the top two places in his second phase pool and qualify for the quarter finals this will increase to a minimum of €4500.

He starts his second phase pool matches tomorrow evening against Roland Scholten.

Other highlights on day 3 of the event see Dutch teenager Sven van Dun through to the semi-finals of the Bullit Junior event at the expense of Kevin Münch from Germany.

England captain Martin Adams and Lakeside sensation Jelle Klaasen both qualify for the second phase. Adams is only the second player after Taylor to maintain a 100% record in the opening phase.

Ronnie Baxter gets through by the skin of his teeth with a great 127 pressure finish on the bull. One more leg dropped in the match and he would have been out of the event at the expense of his opponent Niels de Ruiter. Instead he qualifies with an identical record by virtue of his win over de Ruiter. He is joined by Ted Hankey who beats an already eliminated John Walton.

The last two through are Shaun Greatbatch who beats Tony O'Shea who still tops the group.

The pools for Phase 2 are as follows:

Pool I - van Barneveld, Scholten, Baxter and Hogan
