BERT KELLY RETIRES
... |
Hampshire
president Bert Kelly (pictured left) retired at the end of the
season and County General Secretary Frank Branscombe published the
following article in this month's Darts World. I can only add my
congratulations for the sterling service and contribution Bert has
given to Hampshire.
It gives me much regret to announce
that Bert Kelly the President of Hampshire County Darts Organisation
who at the sprightly age of 92 has decided to take early retirement!
For the many years of my own
association with Hampshire Darts Bert has given me support and
guidance for which I have always been grateful and I know that he
has more than rightly earned the respect by example of myself plus
all players and officials that have had the privilege of meeting
and working with him.
Bert’s dedication to the sport of
Darts in general and to Hampshire in particular has been an
inspiration to us all for so many, many years and I know that he has
always been immensely proud of the many successes that Hampshire has
achieved and enjoyed in that time.
The contribution Bert has made to
those successes is immeasurable and the help and advice given has
been invaluable.
In his earlier years Bert was an
outstanding player and reached the News of the World Area Finals on
three occasions (1952, 1957 and 1958) and in 1958 from the Area play
off staged in Shoreditch carried on to contest the Grand Finals at
Earls Court.
Since his playing days he has
organised countless darts events in his home town of Basingstoke
that have served to further the careers of so many talented players.
Throughout this time and this year
celebrating the 67 years of their marriage Bert has had the support
of his lovely wife Phyl who was a Hampshire County player and great
supporter of Darts and Hampshire.
I know that Bert and Phyl will
continue to attend events when they can and it is a great honour for
us in that they have agreed to give Hampshire the privilege of
accepting the positions of Honorary Life Vice Presidents.
Hampshire extends to Bert most sincere
and deepest thanks for the dedication, loyalty and support given
over so many happy and successful years as without him it just would
not have been possible.
Thank you Bert you
are gong to be one hell of an act to follow! |
