Fira
is the main town on the island, teetering on the edge of the crater, a maze
of walkways lined with gift type shops, many quite upmarket, like Oia, every
way you turn there's a photograph just waiting to be taken.
As
you wander through the cobbled streets of Fira, a town of about 2,000 inhabitants,
you can get a feel for the old Santorini. The town's archaeological museum
is filled with finds from excavations at Akrotiri.
Although it tends to get filled with tourists in high season that doesn't
detract from it's charm.
