COLOURED ASPHALTS

This Junction was laid with RED ASPHALT on one side of the juntion and YELLOW ASPHALT on the other.

The yellow was made using yellow binder and yellow sand. The stone that was rolled in was coated with yellow binder.

The red was made using 50 pen bitumen and 5% red dispersion. The stone was pre-coated with red binder.

This shows the yellow Asphalt being laid.

A novel approach when producing the coated stone for rolling into the asphalt is to add 0.5% of sharp sand or bauxite to the mix after the stone has been coated with the coloured binder, this improves skid resistance of the freshly laid asphalt.

The yellow coated stone ready for laying.

For the range of colours that can be produced as hot rolled asphalt see COLOUR RANGE.
