Threading toys

I think this toy is developing muscle control long with colour sorting. What is it made of, well the base is easy, a solid piece of wood. Yes you guessed it, beech by the looks of it. The beads I would guess are plastic which have been injection moulded . If they are solid wood I would think they are also beech and sprayed different colours. The wires are either lengths of plastic which have been extruded or lengths of metal wire which have been dip coated .
Abacus counting frame! I'm not sure of the wood but its not beech this time but it is solid (looks a bit like North American white wood). I bet the uprights are held to the base with a mortise and tenon joint. The beads will be plastic or wood and the wires are probably steel which has been galvanised to stop it going rusty .

This is a complicated toy what. I think the all the stuff on the sides of the box are made from plywood. I think the frame is made of, OK beech, with corner joints which are either dowels or mortise and tenon. I think the squares on the front go round and round (rotate) on steel bars. I think the bent bars on the top are either plastic coated steel or plastic extruded wires. I think the coloured beads on top are either injected plastic or solid wood, I think the fancy maze shape on the left had been machined using CNC routing, I think the little bars that go into the maze shape are short pieces of dowel (wooden rod) which have a wooden bead glued onto each end and I think the whole thing has been sprayed using polyurethane varnish. Gosh I've done a lot of thinking and now tiredness has set in!
Yet another bead toy. I'm pretty sure the beads are made of plastic. The frame is made of solid wood with dowel holding the sides apart. The wires, well plastic or coated metal again. Did you know that dowel is often made from a wood called ramin? Have you noticed the side pieces have been machined to produce four legs? Have a look here to see how I think the plastic rods could have been put into the wooden bases in some of these toys using quick assembly fittings.
