Joining Wood     

 

Here are just a few ways you could join woods together, look at the animation and the knock down fittings

See opposite different types of screw that can be used to fix woods together. Countersunk head (A), raised head (B) and round head (C).
You must drill a hole through both pieces of wood as long as the screw itself (2).Don't forget you drill a clearance hole in the top piece of wood so the screw just passes through (3) and a pilot hole in the bottom piece of wood so that it does not split when you put the screw in (4). In the example a countersunk screw has been used.

 

Glue is a good way of sticking wood. PVA is excellent, you can get it for both inside and outside jobs. 

Knock down (KD) fittings and quick assembly (QA) fittings are good for fixing stuff quickly some examples are shown below.

Most of the examples above are for fixing man made boards such a chip board where it may be necessary to join sheets of wood together. Number 6 might do for the child's toy.
