Look at the three chairs above. Give two reasons why someone would wish to buy a) the wooden chair b) the plastic chair c) the metal chair. (6 Marks)

The wooden chair is made from a renewable resource and the metal chair from recycled materials. Explain what is meant by a renewable resource. Explain what is meant by a recycled material. (4 Marks)

Sketch the symbol which shows a product is made from recycled materials.(2 Marks)

 

The metal chair has been cast using the sand casting method and the plastic chair has been made using the injection moulding process. Use simple diagrams to explain ONE of these processes, marks to be awarded for quality of sketches, quality of explanation.( 12 Marks)

Name a softwood that you could make the wooden folding chair from. (1 Mark)

The pieces of wood for the chair seat are each 450mm X 75mm X 15mm. Using notes and diagrams show how you could cut 500 of these pieces so that they were exactly the same length. (3 Marks)
