This section is not intended to give you
anything other than an idea of what is available on the market. Obviously there are many
products on the market, these are just a few of the most common.
Cupboard Lock
Fitted to the edge of the cupboard door. Can be fitted to either left or right
doors. No cutting is required on the cupboard.
Catch that!
Box Lock
Ordinary locks will not work on boxes. These locks have to be fitted with a plate which
has hooks on it to enable the lock mechanism to hold. Used with lift up lids.
Escutcheons - These are small plates,
usually fancy, which cover the key hole and prevent scratching of furniture when the key
is inserted.
Fitted Cupboard Lock
As can be seen from the diagrams the lock looks neater when fitted but a recess has to be
cut into the door or drawer before fitting.
Catches
Most locks and fittings are made from
steel, plated steel or brass. Some are cut from the solid and some, generally cheaper, are
pressed from sheets.
There are many different types of catches
available. The three shown are common examples. They all do a similar job which is to hold
a door closed without locking. These are usually made of brass, steel and much more
commonly plastic.
