Sorry about the removal of the picture which was of a young person repairing a bike. I was made to remove the picture by the AQA exam board because I broke copyright.

I'm not sure about this little picture. Its possibly there to fool you. I don't think it is anything to do with mechanisms although I will mention some bike mechanisms. I think it has to do with bike racks. Think about it, off road out in the back of beyond, got a little backpack full of goodies, want to park up and have a munching do. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Look below for bike racks. Mechanisms are here

Simple bent tube which is done on a pipe bender then plates welded at either end and the whole structure bolted to the ground. Its galvanised by the look of it.

Simple rack with curves made on a pipe bender and welded onto a steel frame. It looks like the whole thing has been powder coated.

Another one that has been welded then powder coated. This one also bolts to the ground.

This one is bent and galvanised. All these are made on a Jig. A Jig would help to speed up the making, but more important make sure all the pieces were the same.

A simple Jig or former could be a piece of wood the same shape as the bent pieces which the metal is bent round. Once the pieces have been made you then need to figure out how you could hold the bits in place and all the same distance apart while you welded them into place. Look here for information on welding.

I have tried to explain how you might make a bike rack/barbie grill here. You could use a similar method for the three racks on the right. Don't forget that different bikes have different thickness wheels and you need to make sure you allow for that when you are designing your wheel holders.
