Plastic is easily maintained. It does not need a finish once the object has been produced. It is easily wiped, making it hygienic. It is reasonably cheap, it is light for moving about. It is easily recycled and reformed.
Metal is quite easily maintained. If it is stainless it does not need a finish, if it is steel it needs painting or plastic coating or plating. It can be easily wiped but it can be heavy to move. Heavy can be an advantage if you don't want a numpty to take it away without asking. Metals are easily recycled.
Wood is not as easily maintained. It can rot. It can harbour germs in its grain. It needs a finish such as paint or varnish, it is not as easily recycled and it is not particularly cheap, especially if it is hardwood.
