TERRY-THOMAS

COMEDY ACTOR

Born Thomas Terry Hoar Stevens on the 14 July 1911 in Finchley, London. Terry THOMAS, although coming from a working class background, became recognised as the epitome of the Upper class  rogue. With his distinctive Gap tooth and his cigarette holder, he gave life to the Champagne loving, scheming scoundrel he portrayed so well. Some of the roles he will be best remembered for were as Sir Cuthbert Ware-Armitage, in Monte Carlo or Bust (1969) or as  J. Algernon Hawthorne, alongside Spencer TRACEY in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) or once again as Sir Cuthbert in, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines 1965. Despite the fact he played the flying officer scoundrel type so well, it was the characters inability to ultimately succeed that endeared them to us.

Tragically in the early 80's Terry was struck down with Parkinsons disease and and in the 10 years that followed, his health took its toll on his career and fortune. He died in relative obscurity. in 1990.
