TOMMY COOPER

COMEDIAN/MAGICIAN

"I went to the Dr's see, and I said, Dr I've broken my arm in three places, and do you know what he said,.he said don't go to those places then".

Ask someone to do an impression and the words "Just like that" are probably what you will hear, such is the endurance of the Magic that is Tommy Cooper. Born in Wales in 1922 Tommy Cooper was without doubt one of the best entertainers that country has produced. He made the art of confusion and uncertainty his trade mark A respected member of the world renowned Magic Circle. With the use of one liners and short stories he would stretch out his simple magic tricks, but the real magic lied not in trickery but in his foolproof timing.

It is rumoured that he borrowed his familiar Fez from a local man, after losing his usual Pif Helmet just before going on stage to entertain troops. No Royal variety show would be complete without this man, who by just his silent presence, would have an audience rolling in the aisles.

Tommy collapsed on stage in April 1984, at Her Majesty's Theatre as his audience laughed in the belief that he was once again being the impromptu clown they loved so much.  He died as he lived, making us laugh, what  better a tribute could we pay to him. Thanks Tommy.
