SNAKEBOARD/STREETBOARD

This site is intended help fellow 'snakers' find details of where to get great deals on boards and other items, as well as introduce this CRAZY sport to those under privileged non 'snakers'.

First of all if you are a 'snaker' bear with me while I explain what we do to the rest of the world.
First things first, snakeboards are NOT stupid little toys. There are toy snakeboards which for some reason have given the sport a bad name, but there are also toy skateboards, blades and bmx's. So to start with change any preconceptions of what you think a snakeboard is, to that of a serious skate park worthy machine.
Basically snakeboarding was invented in South Africa by a few people who wanted to bring snow boarding to the roads, the first snakeboard was crudely made from an old skate board and a piece of drain pipe, this design was then modified to what snakeboards are today. There are now five main manufacturers of 'streetboards' Snakeboard u.s.a, Anderson, Think Twice, Stud and dimension boards.

WE ARE THE KINGS OF TRICKS

The fact that Snake/Streetboards have bindings enables us to pull bigger airs, longer grinds, faster spins and more graceful flips than any other sport with four wheels, however there is a down side to all of this, and this is that the same straps or bindings which enable us to pull extreme tricks stops us from preforming successful bails (a bail is when you pull out of a trick in the last moments, for example on a skate board you can jump off), I myself have been a victim of this, and have snapped every ligament in my collar bone leaving me with slanting shoulders for weeks after, I have grazed the whole of the left side of my body as well as spraining my wrists about a hundred times, knee injuries and back cramp also feature on this injury list.  All this may seem pretty bad but none of it has even made me think of giving up this sport that I can only describe as god like.

THE STORY OF THE NAME

Originally there was only one company called 'Snakeboard U.S.A', this company made several boards under their name but it wasn't until 'Anderson' (a different company) made a new board that the name Snakeboard was disputed. 'Snakeboard U.S.A'refused to let 'Anderson make boards under the name snakeboard, to over come this 'Anderson simply changed the name of their boards to 'streetboards' (in my opinion and the opinion of others, a crappier name). This however did not stop people calling their boards snakeboards until a new company emerged, 'Think Twice' this company also was refused permission to call their boards snakeboards but instead offered by 'Anderson' to share their name.  This lead to all Snakeboard competitions having their names changed to 'streetboard' (except the ones organized by Snakeboard U.S.A)

Sadly due to the fact that Snake/Streetboards are hard to come by (where I come from)you don't see as many 'snakers' as I'd like to.  I have infected my friends with snakeboarding (sorry I know snakeboarding is wrong it should be Snake/Streetboarding but I can't be bothered to write it ever time and I'm sure you are sick of reading it as well), these friends can now all snakeboard and from what I have seen we must be the only 'snakers' in the whole of the south of England so if you do 'snake' PLEASE e-mail me!
