I am decended from Edith L Howitt who was 3 years old at the time of the British 1881 census and had sisters Phoebe and Mary. The family lived in Penge, Surrey. Edith later married Philip Wilson and was referred to by recent generations as 'Granny Wilson' Now, the father of the 'Penge' household in 1881 was Charles E Howitt who was born in Melbourne 35 years earlier. What I am not clear about is how Charles E was related to Dr Gilbert Howitt (brother of William and Richard) who migrated to Australia in 1840. He did have a son Charles who died as a child but did he have another son with the same name? I'd be grateful for any help? Justin
