  • Hello, My great grandmother was ? Howitt, she was a doctor in Nottingham, married to Dr Bingham Howitt. She died arround 1912-14 and was buried at the rock cemetery Nottingham. She left a daughter, Lily Howitt (My Nan) who passed away when i was 5 years old.We are going to try to locate My Great Grandma's Grave on Monday. We know very little about the Howitt side as my Nan was fostered aged about 3 when her mother died from TB. Apparentely it was not the done thing for the father to bring up his daughter alone in days of old? We would love to hear from anyone who can help us find out more. We can't find any references to the name Bingham Howitt? it certainly is an unusual first name. Regards, Mel. -- Melanie Roberts 18 Jan 2008

  • My relative is descended from Jemima Duguid Howitt's daughter, Isabella Sutherland (he is her gg grandson). Isabella was born about 1883, 6 years before Jemima married John Howitt in 1889 in Woodside, Aberdeen. John and Jemima's family are Isabella's half brothers and sisters and George Howitt was the informant on Jemima's death certificate. Catherine Ross, stepsister, 5 Brown Street, Woodside, Aberdeen was the informant on Isabella's death certificate. Isabella's married name was Pirie. Would any of George or Catherine Howitt's descendents have any knowledge of Isabella and how, where and by whom she was brought up. Thank you in anticipation. Best regards, Pat, Scotland. 13 Jun 2007

The webmasters would be very interested in this posting especially as the site is based about a mile from Aston on Trent in Derbyshire. • Hello! I am Richard Howitt, now living in South Wales. My family originated from Hucknall, Notts. My father was Sydney Gerald Howitt, born 9th May 1914. He sadly passed away last month aged 91. His father was Frank Potter Howitt, brother of T. Cecil Howitt the architect, and his mother was Annie Elizabeth Bamkin. My father had two brothers, John (Jack) and Eric. Their children were Mervyn, Pamela, Paul and Veronica, but I have not heard from any of my cousins since the 1960s.
