History
Situated at the geographical centre of Northern Ireland, Bradley's is a well known landmark, and was featured in the
BBC show–“Your place and mine” in March 06’.
Now known as Bradley’s Corner Public House the small business has been carried on for a reputed 400 years, (or more). In the early days the beer was brewed on the premises, with water taken from the adjacent well, now called ‘The Brewery well’.
The Bradley Family acquired the business around 1850, which at that time was known as ‘The Half Way House’. The present owner, Hugh Bradley has replaced the old ‘Bangor Blue’ slates with the more elegant Westmoreland Green tiles. An added attraction is the unique ceiling in the lounge area which people come to see and try to copy (usually with little success). The ceiling design is based on the mathematical concept of “Orthogonal sections through the icosahedron”.
Many good stories are associated with Bradleys, one of the best is about the time that a culprit broke into the house and stole the landlord’s trousers while he was asleep. The police were soon on the trail of the offender, who after a lengthy manhunt, was duly apprehended and the missing garment recovered. For the offence he was a guest of her Majesty for six months (Queen Victoria, not Q.E.). This episode is fully documented in "The Mid Ulster Mail" circa 1896.
Bradley’s Corner is a modest establishment whose motto is “Plenty of drink & plenty of chat” See you soon! |
