In this search for authenticity within the limits of his medium, he makes no distinction between drawing and painting. In both, the outcome of direct observation is a visual structure which has to stand as an equivalence for experience. In pursuing this path he aligns himself with the long and continuing preoccupations of some of the best painters at present working in this country. His approach requires an integrity of action which does not depend on easy stylistic formulae."
