Club History

The roots of Clevedon Feathers lies as a direct result from daily coaching sessions for Local Ladies at the old Youth Club in Chapel Hill (now long gone). Their enthusiasm transferred to many of the husbands and mixed doubles was added to the Ladies doubles coaching.

As a result two clubs emerged – one Swiss Valley and the other – Clevedon Feathers.

Pauline Hussey was elected Secretary of Feathers and the foundation and constitution was set up in 1972. The club venue shortly moved to Clevedon Comprehensive School and matches were shared between it and the YM Hall in Marson Road. More recently St. Brandons became the venue for both club and match nights. Today we are back at Clevedon School playing our club nights and matches at the Swiss Valley Sports Centre.

Feathers first entered a Team in Division 9 of the North Somerset Badminton League in 1975 resulting in yearly promotion to Division 4 where it ‘paused’ before settling into Division 3 for several seasons. The late 1980’s were spent in the top half of the Division 2, before making the breakthrough to Division 1 in 1989. The ‘A’ Team had been Division 1 Champions for 2 seasons in 1992 and 1993 and was joined briefly by the ‘B’ Team – quite some achievement from our humble beginnings!

The Club now runs 3 North Somerset Badminton League Teams ranging from Division 1 to Division 5 and 2 teams are entered in the Bristol League
