EVANGELISATION:
The word "evangelisation" is a word rooted in Sacred Scripture, rooted in the life of Christ, and in the life of the Church. To evangelise is to proclaim the Good News and Jesus Himself is the Good News. St. Mark begins the Gospel with the words " The Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God" (Mark 1,1). Christ said " I must proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God....... Because that is what I was sent to do" (Luke 4, 43). And then to his disciples he said: " As the Father sent me, so I am sending you". (John 20,21).
To evangelise is the calling of every follower of Jesus Christ, of you, of me, of every Christian: " Go out to the whole world, proclaim the good news to all creation". (Mark 16, 15). Go out to the real world as it is, in all its reality, in all its fragility. And for us the world in the first instance is the world in which we find ourselves in our own Diocese of Down & Connor, the world of Antrim and Down, city and town, the world of the Glens, the Mournes and the Ards, the world which we share with all our Christian sisters and brothers and those of other faiths or none.
