ORGANISATIONS WITHIN THE PARISH (Religious or Charitable)
APOSTOLIC WORK (Downpatrick Branch)
The object of the Apostolic Work is to share in the missionary apostolate of the Church by prayer and by supplying material and financial needs in those areas where the church is not yet established. Apostolic Work supply foreign missionarys with sacred vessels, vestments and with money for building churches and schools.
Our Downpatrick Branch works through Down & Connor Diocesan headquarters which is based at Xavier House, Clifton Park Avenue, Belfast. The materials and finances mentioned above can be supplied directly from Xavier House.
The Diocesan Council and Executive Committee co-ordinates the work of all branches. The Executive Committee meets once a month. The Spiritual Director for this Diocese is Canon Brendan Murray.
DOWNPATRICK BRANCH:
Active members meet on Tuesday night in St. Michael's Parish Centre at 7.30pm.
Honarary members give an annual subscription of £5 towards the work of the Missions. At present, we have 13 active members, new members are always very welcome. Information can be obtained from any of the members or by contacting:

ST. JOSEPH'S YOUNG PRIESTS SOCIETY:
The group meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month in St. Michael's Parish Centre at 8pm. Our Chaplain is Fr. P Sheenan C.C., We are a society of lay people founded in 1895 and the purpose of the group is to foster vocations by prayer, to help financially in the education of students to the priesthood and to encourage a greater love and understanding of the Mass.

Downpatrick Third World Group was formed in 1986 to co-ordinate the efforts of those already donating to various projects in developing countries. Our first endeavour was a cake sale raising £100.00 Since that we have progressed, with your help to be able to send, last year £44,301.68, to projects as varied as earthquake and famine relief, water supplies to a school in Uganda, medical supplies in Brazil, winter blankets for the Zulu people, respite care for the Chernobyl children, education needs in the Phillipines and the purchase of honey bee
hives for Africa.
The Group meets monthly in Crypt, St Patrick's Church at 8pm on the first
Wednesday of every month. A warm welcome will be extended to everyone who
comes along, even for a one -off visit.

There are two Conferences in the parish.
St. Patrick's Conference meets every Monday at 7pm in Vincent's, 14 Irish Street, Downpatrick.
St. Colmcille's Conference meets every Monday in Vincent's Centre, 2-4 Ballymote Walk after 7.30pm Mass.
The Society offers friendship and support to those in need and those who are disadvantaged. Home visitation is the cornerstone of Vincentian work, and confidentiality is always respected and maintained.
A variety of activities is offered by Vincentians, including hospital visitation, holidays and parties for senior citizens, outings for children, and a twinning link with Ghana, W. Africa.
At the Ballymote Centre there are senior citizens' lunches, craft classes, adult learning, Homework Club, Young Mothers Club. There is also a Homework Club at the Patrician Youth Centre.
The Society runs three shops in Downpatrick:
Vincent's, 14 Irish Street, and Vincent's, Ballymote Shopping Centre both sell good second hand clothes, curtains, bedding, bric-a-brac etc.
Vincent's Furniture, Church Street offers good quality second hand and new furniture.
Donations of clothes and furniture in good condition are always appreciated.
