Imagine! The alarm has just gone off. Its dark, and a distinctly strong breeze is fluttering the curtains and wind chimes at the window. Its 2.15 am. Am I crazy? Why did I ever say that I would do it? Can I think of some plausible excuse not to go? No, I resolve. I promised the communities which I am privileged to support that I would be there, and go I must.
I get up, dress and make a cup of coffee to sustain me for the few miles that I must travel to my destination. Arriving in good time, I have pleasure upon pleasure as I help my hosts greet the friends as they arrive and enjoy the welcoming conversation. Admittedly we are short of a finger or two ( be ye .as the fingers of one hand ) but we are united in our wish to commemorate this solemn occasion with a thought-provoking and God-praising devotional that transports us to another realm.
Our hosts have invited us to stay afterwards to share breakfast together, and the smells from the kitchen are enticing. Ushered into the dining area, suitably decorated in black and white, offset by the bright colours of our cooked and cold repast, we enjoy each others company for another while. An hour later we reluctantly agree that we must love and leave each other to get on with the rest of the day.
Driving home, the road an empty ribbon in front of me, my heart uplifted and face shining with the sun reflecting from the (wing) mirror, I feel as light and free as Bahá'u'lláhs soul released from its cage.
