COMPANY PROFILE
Brief History

The company emblem is the crest of the Clan MacKay translating to "with a firm grasp" (knowledge) inferring reliable work and strong management. Associated name spellings and pronunciations of MacKay in translation have in most cases a meaning akin to "wild", "fierce" or "savage".

The powerful and numerous Clan of the MacKays has long been established in the far north of Scotland, being the most remote from the seat of government of any part of the Scottish mainland. From this background of harsh climate, inhospitable terrain and meagre existence developed one of the oldest clans in Scotland, a tough clansman ready to vehemently defend his hard won possessions and indeed his heritage.

Infamous for their rebellious and quarrelsome nature, the name of MacKay became synonymous with local clan skirmishes, national battles and indeed overseas wars, the most notable being the despatch of some 3,000 clansmen to fight in Denmark and Bolivia under Sir Donald MacKay.

Nowadays, fortunately for their competitors, the MacKays have dropped many of these unsavoury traits.

Customer Base

The Civil Engineering Section of the business is primarily Wind Farm contracts. Other customers/clients are The Scottish Executive, The Highland Council, RAF Tain, Scottish Water, Sutherland Estates, Private Party work.

The Company has had to diversify into Renewable Energy Contracts due to the shortage of Roads and Bridge contracts and the select tendering basis of Scottish Water procurement of their work. This investment has proved to be worthwhile and is proven by the level of involvement the Company can boast since 1996.
