Minutes for the Lanark and District Archaeological Society Committee Meeting held at the Cave on 5/09/00 Present - Ann Clark, Ian Borthwick, Scott Main, Ed Archer, David Hill, Malcolm Gair,Sandy Gilchrist and Alan Paton. Apologies - Andy Wilson, Terri Paton . Matters Arising 1. Malcolm's name to be corrected. 2. Ed to arrange visit to Mauchline for October 28th. 3. Ed still to make copies of the tape about fieldwalking. 4. Malcolm to help Ed make a note of the co-ordinates for the fieldwalking that had been done. 5. Ed possible visit to Renfrewshire in September. Formal visit from Renfrewshire Society to take place in February. Ladas members to show the Renfrewshire members some mottes. 6. Ann mentioned that the Soutra visit was a success. 7. Malcolm suggested that the trip to Segedunum should take place in May. Perhaps overnight visit and liaison with Phil re arrangements. 8. Ed said that there was no news regarding the Virgin award. 9. The following members volunteered for the Wigtown expedition on 9th/10th September - Ed/Malcolm/Ian and Scott. 10. Ed said that this year's current exhibition in the Museum was a great success and that it had been mentioned in a South Lanarkshire Newsletter 11. Ann to confirm the catering at the Elphinstone for the Christmas meeting. 12. The arrival of the soil sample sheets still awaited. 13. Current status of finances - £1783.68. Ian requested itemized bill for the new computer equipment 14. Ann to check the Tolbooth date for November with Ian Veitch. 15. Ed to speak to Steve Batchelor about possible dates next Easter regarding a weekend visit and it was agreed to wait for further information. Possible date after Easter. 16. The Covenanter Conference was discussed and the arrangements to be put in place for dispatch of the tickets while Scott was away on holiday. Decided to notify the following University History departments - Glasgow, Edinburgh ,Stirling and St Andrews. 17. Arrangements for the AGM discussed. Scott to entertain Lawrence and Malcolm to collect the gear. 18. Alan mentioned that the Fire Station in Edinburgh would be open at 10 a.m for the LADAS visit on October 21st. Visit to Cramond to be done after lunch. 19. Alan to make arrangements with David Hill for visit to look at the crannog site near Lee Castle. 20. Sandy Gilchrist mentioned a church/castle trip to see Alloa Tower, Aberdour church and Castle Campbell on April 7th 2001. 21. The shape of the future committee was discussed. 22. The Society to join the friends of Soutra. 23. Charlie requested that the Society should write to Historic Scotland/South Lanarkshire and the Community Council amongst others about the threats to the future of Lanark Castle.
