Minutes for the Lanark and District Archaeological Society Committee Meeting held at the Teaths on 27/09/00 Present - Ann Clark, Scott Main , Ed Archer, David Hill, Malcolm Gair, Charlie Bulloch, Neil Simpson ,Sandy Gilchrist and Alan Paton. Apologies - None Matters Arising 1. Ed to arrange visit to Mauchline for October 28th. 2. Ed still to make copies of the tape about fieldwalking. 3. Ed to make up the field walking record with the help of those participating and send it off to the CBA for publication. 3. Final date for Renfrewshire visit awaited. 4. Several members had made a preliminary visit to Segedunum , had remarked that the catering was appalling in Wallsend. Had enjoyed the visit to Segdunum and to High Rochester 5. Alan said that the Society had achieved 7th in the Virgin award. This was agreed to be an excellent result considering the competition with professionally run museums 6. It was remarked that the Whithorn /Wigtown expedition had been a great success and enjoyed by all participants. 7. Ed said that this year's current exhibition in the Museum was to go on to November 8. Ann confirmed the Christmas booking for the Elphinstone as well as the bookings for all the other meetings. It was agreed at this point that Ann would undertake the bookings for lectures to help the secretary. 9. The arrival of the soil sample sheets still awaited. 10. Current status of finances - unsure of the detail here 10. Ann had checked the Tolbooth date for November with Ian Veitch. The members were to be asked for contributions at the next meeting. Agreed to ask Ian to produce a poster advertising this. 11. Ed to speak to Steve Batchelor about possible dates next Easter regarding a weekend visit and it was agreed to try and avoid the first weekend in April because of a possible clash with Sandy's intended church visit. 12. The Covenanter Conference was discussed and various members agreed to help with the administration and setting up of the Conference exhibition. It was also decided that committee members should be charged a reduced rate of £10. It was also agreed that those committee members who spoke should not be charged anything. 13. Arrangements for Peter Yeoman's lecture discussed and Ed and Ann were to entertain Peter at the Elphinstone and Ed was to organize the projection gear 14. Alan mentioned that the Fire Station in Edinburgh would be open at 10 a.m for the LADAS visit on October 21st and gave details re parking and suggestions of places to eat. 15. Alan to make arrangements with David Hill for visit to look at the crannog site near Lee Castle. 16. Ed mentioned that he was going write to Historic Scotland /South Lanarkshire and the Community Council amongst others about the threats to the future of Lanark Castle. 17. Alan mentioned the fact that he had been in touch with Alan Leslie about a possible visit to the dig on the Roman site at Inveresk. 18. Ed mentioned that he was in touch with Sabre Systems about getting a training program sorted out and that he had got rechargeable batteries and charger for the digital camera.
