Minutes for the Lanark and District Archaeological Society Committee Meeting held at the Teaths on 25/10/00 Present - Ann Clark, Ian Borthwick, Scott Main , Ed Archer, David Hill, Neil Simpson , and Alan Paton. Apologies - None Matters Arising 1. Details of the visit to Mauchline Castle arranged and it was decided to meet at Poosie Nancies. 2. Ed still to make copies of the tape about fieldwalking. 3. Ed had made up the field walking record and was going to dispatch it to C.B.A 4. General discussion about where the field walking finds should go and it was decided to contact Professor Keepie. 5. Ed to e- mail Renfrewshire about an appropriate date for their visit to Lanarkshire. 6 The Virgin award was reported as being more accurately placed in the top ten sites in the U.K. 7. Ed reported that Tom Hislop had made several donations for the forthcoming sale in the Tolbooth. Ed was to collect the Tolbooth keys. Thereafter discussion took place on the mechanics of the sale. 8. Ed reported on the Oban trip scheduled for April 8th , but this was to be postponed to perhaps May. 9. Peter Yeoman lecture had been good. In discussion thereafter it was decided that the person entertaining the speaker should also introduce that speaker. It was reported that the next speaker would be Phil Longbottom who would be speaking on Turkey on Nov 15th. 10. It was reported that the visit to the fire station had been a great success. 11. Ann had a query about the Society's letterhead and wondered whether it might be worth having another made. 12. David and Alan still to make arrangements to go to the Crannog site near Lee Castle. 13. Ed reported that he had written to Peter Yeoman expressing concerns about what was happening to it currently and what might be its future fate. 14. Alan said that he had visited the Roman site at Inveresk. The excavation was normally on weekdays form 9.30 - 4.00. The location was next to St Margaret's Roman Catholic church. Robert Will working for Guard said that to date the Roman road had been found as well as several Roman ovens. 15. Sabre Systems were drawing up plans for a training program and Alan mentioned that he could get hold of Adobe Photoshop. 16. Ian to resubmit a grant application to B.T. 17. Sandy, David and John to do a bridges survey. Discussion ensued about the relative merits of digital and conventional cameras and it was decided to use both types of camera. 18. Scott was to check the serial numbers of recently acquired equipment. 19. Inventory to be done of the tools. 20. Charlie was to be asked whether he could make ranging poles. 21. Ian requested an audit of the £700 grant money. 22. Alternative ideas for future conferences discussed. Thank you letters to be dispatched to the participants in the Covenanter Conference. 23. Elizabeth to check the availability of the Cartland bridge for a night out , possibly near Christmas. 24. Scott reported that the Society's library in the Lyndsay Institute would shortly reopen. 25. Trip to Fife to take place on 2nd January. 26. Roles for the committee members discussed. 27. Newsletter to be done for December. 28. Contributions for web site and newsletter discussed. 29. Finances currently - £1677 - 14 and cash in hand £27.58. 30. Membership stands at 19 fully paid members. 31. Ed reported that he had sent information about the Society to North Lanarkshire. 32. Ed to find out prices of ranging poles and smaller ones as well. Society looking for two large and 4 small. 33. Alan suggested a bulletin Board. 34. It was reported that the next C.I.A conference would be held in Nottingham. 35. Ed mentioned that there would be a Place Name Conference on Nov11th at the Motherwell Heritage Centre.
