LADAS MEETING - 4/04/01 - MINUTES Present - Jack Hoxley , Scott Main , Ann Clark, David Hill , Alan Paton , Ed Archer Neil Simpson, Malcolm Gair , Charlie Bulloch and Sandy Gilchrist Apologies - Jack Hoxley Review of Past Events 1. Tam Ward had stepped in at the last minute to give an excellent lecture on Clydesdale as Dr Kennedy was unwell and unable to give a lecture on the Fourth Crusade. Everybody commented on the high standard of Tam's lecture. 2. A general comment was made on the progress in cataloguing the finds from the Greyfriars dig. 2. It was mentioned that the projected churches visit to Fife had to be cancelled because of the Foot and Mouth restrictions that were in force. Forthcoming events 1. Ann Clark mentioned that the Tolbooth had been booked for June 2nd and a discussion was held about the nature of the proposed plant sale etc . At this stage most of the committee volunteered to help on the day 2. C.I.A Conference - Ed Archer mentioned that the cost of the Conference would be £72 and it was agreed that the Society would pay £100 towards the expenses of those attending. Currently 4 members of the Society have expressed an interest in attending. 3. The autumn trip to the Orkneys was discussed and Alan Paton agreed to find out further details about ferries. It was also decided that the visit would be targeted at the mainland of Orkney rather than visiting any of the islands of the Orkney group. 4. Teams were organized by Neil Simpson for the Quiz evening on Thursday April 26th. Roles and Responsibilities 1. Ed - Newsletter - said that the newsletter was out and had been distributed. Press releases were continuing as normal. Nothing to report on fieldwalking due to the foot and mouth restrictions. 2. Ian - reported on the current state of the web site and said that he had been involved in discussions about finds registration. 3. No safety report or report from Jack. 4. David gave a brief report of what had been achieved on the couple of Sundays that some committee members went out to look at bridges. 5. Ed mentioned that there was a web training course being organized by the South Lanarkshire Museum's Forum at the beginning of February. Financial Statement 1. Current Account £ 1701 - 28 Cash in hand £ 35 - 01 2. Financial Commitments discussed. Reckoned that about £1100 would need to be spent on various projects and it was hoped that grant applications and the Tolbooth plant sale would help Society finances. Future Meetings 1. No news about printers 2. Ed to organize search of the area where the carved stones came from. 3. Committee meeting for June - Wednesday June 6th. 4. Malcolm mentioned funding to dig in area of museum. 5. Ann requested some money for compost for plant sale. 6. Ian mentioned the launch of Fiona Watson's new book. Also demonstration to take place in Stirling to protect Prehistoric site. 7. It was reported the house behind the funeral parlour is to be demolished. 8. Letter to be sent to South Lanarkshire for grant for resistivity equipment. 9. Ann Clark to book Elphinstone for Biggar meetings. 10. Ed to get refund from Scot for Rescue sub. 11.
